Hungrrr vs Flipdish: Which Restaurant Ordering Platform Is Better?
Hungrrr vs Flipdish: which is better for your restaurant?
For most restaurants, Flipdish. It runs online ordering, POS, kiosks, apps, AI phone ordering and AI marketing on one system. Hungrrr does branded apps and web ordering for hospitality businesses, and that's mostly where it stops. Fewer integrations, smaller product range.
That's the short answer. Whether it holds for you depends on what your restaurant looks like now and what you're planning to add.
What is Hungrrr?
Hungrrr is a UK online ordering platform. Most of its customers are independent restaurants, pubs and small hospitality groups. It gives them branded web ordering, a mobile app and some loyalty features.
The pitch is simple and affordable: get your customers off the marketplaces and ordering from you directly. For a single-site takeaway with a short menu and a till that already works, that's a reasonable thing to want, and Hungrrr does it.
What is Flipdish?

- Restaurant POS, built for hospitality
- Self-service kiosks
- Branded mobile apps
- AI phone ordering
- AI marketing
- Restaurant websites
Customers range from one-site operators to large multi-location groups and franchises.

The top two rows make it look closer than it is. "Yes" on both sides for web ordering doesn't tell you what happens to the order after the customer taps pay. That's where most of the difference is.
Online ordering
Both platforms let you take orders through your own website and app without paying marketplace commission on each one. If a marketplace is taking 30% of a £25 order, that's £7.50 gone before you've paid for the ingredients. Moving even a chunk of those orders to your own channel is the whole reason either platform exists.
Hungrrr does this job fine for independent operators with simple menus. If you sell twelve pizzas, some sides and a few drinks, you won't hit its limits.
Flipdish goes further. It handles complex menu structures, upselling, multi-location menus and a customer database you can market to afterwards. If your menu is options on top of options - sizes, swaps, add-ons, meal deals - the ordering flow has to cope with that without confusing the customer or the kitchen.
Flipdish online ordering also connects directly to the Flipdish POS. Every order, whatever channel it came from, lands in the same system. No separate tablets lined up on the counter. Nobody flicking between screens. One queue for the kitchen.
Think about 7pm on a Friday. Walk-ins at the counter, web orders, app orders, a couple of phone orders scribbled on a pad. When those all live in different places, someone has to keep track of the lot, and that someone is usually also trying to bag up food. When they're in one queue, the kitchen just works through the queue.
POS and in-venue technology
This is the biggest gap between the two.
Hungrrr doesn't offer a restaurant POS. If you use Hungrrr, you still need a separate till system. That means two systems to keep in step, two sets of reports to reconcile, and room for manual errors whenever an order has to be typed from one into the other.
Menu changes show the problem fast. Say the price of large chips goes up 20p. You change it on the till. Then you change it on the online menu. Forget one, and your website and your counter are charging different prices for the same chips. Multiply that by every price rise, every item that runs out, every new special.
Flipdish has a fully integrated restaurant POS system built for hospitality. It takes in-person orders, delivery orders, pre-orders and kiosk orders through one interface. The kitchen sees everything together. Reporting comes from one place, so end-of-day numbers don't need stitching together from two exports.
If you want front of house, online and kiosk run from one platform, Flipdish is the only one of these two that does it.
Kiosks
Self-service kiosks are now standard in a lot of fast-casual restaurants, QSRs and busy venues. They cut queue times, push up average order value and free staff to do other things - usually getting food out faster. A kiosk asks every single customer whether they want a drink with that. A cashier on a busy shift often doesn't.
Hungrrr doesn't do kiosks.
Flipdish supplies both the hardware and the software. Kiosks run off the same menu management system as online and in-person ordering, so a change made in one place shows up everywhere. If you 86 the halloumi at 8pm, it disappears from the kiosk, the website and the app together. Nobody orders something the kitchen can't make.
AI and automation
Flipdish has put a lot of work into AI. Two products matter here:
- AI Phone Agent answers calls, takes orders and handles reservations automatically
- AI Marketing runs automated campaigns based on how customers actually behave
Hungrrr has no AI phone ordering and no marketing automation.
The phone agent is the one people notice first. Plenty of takeaways still get a big share of orders by phone, and a ringing phone during service means someone stops what they're doing to pick it up, write the order down and read it back. Then it gets keyed into the till, sometimes wrongly. If you take a lot of phone orders, the AI Phone Agent alone can take a real chunk out of labour costs and still get the order right. The order goes straight into the system instead of onto a notepad.
AI Marketing is quieter. It sends campaigns to customers based on what they've ordered and when, without anyone on your team having to build each one by hand.
Multi-location and franchise support
Hungrrr works for independents. Its tools for running lots of sites are limited. Operators with 10 or more locations may struggle to roll out changes, keep menus consistent or report across the whole estate from one view.
Flipdish is built for multi-location restaurant groups and franchises. Menus, pricing rules, promotions and reporting are all managed centrally and pushed out to individual sites.
In practice: you launch a new seasonal menu across 15 sites. With central management, head office sets it up once and pushes it out. Without it, someone does it 15 times, or each site manager does their own and you find out three weeks later that one branch is still selling last season's dessert at last season's price. Pricing can still vary by site where it needs to - city centre and suburbs don't always charge the same - but the control sits in one place.
Franchises have the same issue with a sharper edge. The brand needs consistency. Franchisees need to see their own numbers. Both have to work off the same system for that to happen without a pile of spreadsheets.
Customer ownership
When an order comes through a marketplace, the customer is really the marketplace's customer. When it comes through your own channel, you get the data - who ordered, what, how often.
Flipdish gives operators full ownership of their customer database. You can segment it, target it and win customers back through the AI marketing suite. Someone who ordered every Friday for six months and then stopped is worth a nudge. That only happens if your system notices they stopped.
Hungrrr passes customer data to operators too. The marketing tools on top of it are more limited.
Pricing
Neither Hungrrr nor Flipdish publishes fixed prices. Costs depend on the number of locations, order volumes and which features you pick.
What we can say:
- Hungrrr usually charges either commission on orders or a flat subscription, depending on the plan
- Flipdish online ordering pricing is based on a platform fee model, and the full stack - POS, kiosks, apps - can be bundled together
Comparing the headline monthly price on its own is misleading. Add up everything. A Hungrrr subscription plus a separate POS, separate kiosk hardware and separate marketing tools will almost certainly cost more than one integrated Flipdish setup. And that's before counting the hours spent making those systems talk to each other, or fixing it when they don't.
When you're getting quotes, ask both providers the same things:
- Is there a per-order commission, a flat fee, or both?
- What does the POS cost, and if there isn't one, what will you need to buy separately?
- Who supports the hardware when it breaks on a Saturday night?
- What does it cost to add a second or third site?
- Can you export your customer data if you leave?
The answers usually make the decision for you.
Who should consider Hungrrr?
Hungrrr suits an independent restaurant that wants branded web ordering and a basic app, has no need for a POS, kiosks or AI tools, and runs on a tight tech budget with straightforward operations. If that's you and you're happy with your current till, it'll do the job.
Who should choose Flipdish?
Flipdish is the better pick for:
- Restaurants that want all their tech on one platform
- Operators running multiple locations or franchise networks
- QSRs and fast-casual restaurants where kiosks matter
- Anyone who wants AI phone ordering and automated marketing
- Growing groups that don't want to swap systems every time they open another site
The verdict
Hungrrr covers the basics of direct online ordering. Flipdish covers the same basics plus POS, kiosks, AI, multi-site management and marketing automation.
If you only need a branded ordering page, both will get you there. If you want to run the whole restaurant - counter, kitchen, online, phone - from one system, it's Flipdish.
